Mile Cross Primary School Norwich Mayan dancing by Kayla November 15th
Earlier today, we did a Mayan dance workshop. We did it with a lovely lady, who knows a lot about the Mayans. her name is Lorraine. We did this in the hall. All of the class did Mayan dancing because of our topic, Mayans. All of this was really fun.
This morning involved lots of dancing, listening and teamwork. We listened to Mayan songs. We had very Mayan face paints. We did the Kulcantan dance, the Mayans admired this dance. It was a dance that was the Mayans favourite. It was a snake form that went in and out the space. This activity ws one of my favourite. You had to hold hands with the person in front and back and follow the person in front.
I think the instruments were good because of the sound. I really think the drums because they had a loud beat to it. In my opinion, if you have been learning about the Ancient Mayans then Lorraine is the one to call. Lorraine is really good at Mayan things. In my opinion, shes really creative but these things she has thought of are true facts. It really felt like i was a proper Mayan. Do you want her to visit?
Again, Lorraine is the one to go for. I really enjoyed playing the instruments and making up dance routines the most. I would defanitly recommend her because she’s fun, enjoyable and gives you more and more facts in an hour. Thanks Lorraine.
Multicultural dance for schools & Cathedrals throughout uk
Biblical Lands & Times Catton Junior School
The children enjoyed it immensely and found the element of community, explored by the whole group dances, to be great fun. The groups are not particularly confident dancers nor are they all that happy to work together holding hands but this was encouraged from the start in a positive way and everyone was made to feel a part of this community dance – even the teachers. John Semmens
The use of music to link to stories told in other cultures was an effective way to bring in the concept of storytelling and the use of the scarves as ‘be all’ prop meant that the children had tremendous freedom of expression when telling their own stories. They greatly enjoyed this, as seen in the two attached poems. Please take a look at their own words.

Ancient Egyptian dance workshop at Langley Preparatory School at Taverham Hall, Costumes, Ancient history, scarves, musical instruments packed full of fun !Lorraine Theobald, our instructor for the morning, arrived with an absolute passion for her subject and this engaged the children straight away. She has spent 26 years working with children through the medium of dance and music, allowing them to immerse themselves in the culture of many different countries around the world. Lorraine talked the children through the history of Egyptian dance and the Gods who were known for their love of it. In addition, she spoke about the instruments, what they were made from and also their names. We even spoke a little Arabic to each other!
Year 3 were amazing and some hidden dance talents were certainly revealed. We learnt ten different dance moves from traditional Egyptian dance and then performed a group dance, complete with clothing and music typical at that time.Lorraine’s company, Multicultural Dance was winner of the prestigious Dr Frank Bates Dance & Musical Theatre Award as part of the 2016 Norfolk Arts Awards. She commented very positively on the children’s behavior and engagement. Mrs Sarah Howe, Miss Jemma Holmes and Mr Adam Sayer were extremely proud of the way in which the children embraced this wonderful opportunity and were thoroughly impressed with the dancing that they saw. The morning was educational as well as great fun.

Dear Lorraine,
Firstly, thank you for coming to Linton Heights Junior School yesterday. The children had a brilliant day, in which you played a significant part. The structured discussion at the beginning of the session helped to place dance within the Mayan context. The physical dancing was great fun and much loved by all. Whilst the girls were bound to love it, I was delighted to see every single boy join in with such enthusiasm, inspired by tales of hunting or being a jaguar or quetzal. The greatest accolade was surely from my partner teacher, Mr Wilson, who promptly asked you if you would come again next year!
Many thanks to you, Lorraine, for such successful Mayan dancing

Dear Lorraine thank you for such a wonderful morning of Chinese Dance. It really completed our week of Chinese New Year celebrations perfectly. The children were entranced by your stories, captivated by your passion and hugely inspired to be creative themselves. They were all so focused, and it was truly wonderful to see some of the struggling learners blossom and show a new talent.
We hope to see you again next year.

Thanks for a great day, everyone who took part in the workshops had a brilliant time and really learnt a lot too. It was really impressive that you were able to deliver such a high quality of learning to such large numbers. We used what the children learnt in assembly to do an Indian dance and they showed just how much they had retained. Many of the adults who were helping to supervise said how they really liked your sessions and it was lovely for our ‘visitors’ to see such creativity too! My headteacher actually recommended you based on one of your previous sessions and I would definitely ask you to come in again.
Many thanks
